Our Discord server structure is almost self-explanatory. But there are some important rules to know.
General structure #
The server is divided in several parts:
- announcement section
- general section
- teahouse
- translation section
- formatting
- non project
General section #
#general #
Use this channel for all kind of discussions, that are related to our project and that don’t have an own dedicated channel. Do not use #general for translation!
#memes, #inli-ala, #off-topic, #pilin-nasa #
These threads are for other stuff, that doesn’t fit into the #general, in order to keep #general clean for project-related talk.
#names #
In the Bible a lot of proper names occur. In this channel we discuss how to tokiponize these names. Learn more about this in another section of the knowledge base.
#daily #
For your inspiration, a random verse of the Bible will be displayed every day.
#hackathon #
From time to time, we do translation events.
#podcast-planning #
From time to time, we create podcasts.
#thiqq-discussions #
Translating the Bible, sometimes, leads into some deeper discussions. This channel is the place for discussing all kind of background or theological questions.
#cobwebs #
There are some translation relicts from the early days of the project. We discuss them here.
Teahouse section #
The four main roles: translator (tr), proofreader (pr), language specialist (ls) and footnote taker (ft), may want to discuss about their methods. This is the place for these meta-discussions.
Translation section #
This is the most important section, as all the translation work is carried out here. Every biblical book of the “Old Testament”, the “New Testament” and the the “Apocryphs” has it’s own channel. The translation of the texts are done within threads in these channels. And this is the place for our most important rule:
“One verse per thread, one thread per verse.”
For a beginner, it might not be that obvious, but it’s a strict rule to open a new thread for every single verse of the Bible. This is, because every verse needs some space on it’s own due to our translation process.
The threads are named using this pattern: <book> <chapter>:<verse>
Where <book> is how the thread of the book is named.
Example: The translation thread of the 4th verse of the 3rd chapter of the book “Song of Songs” would be named song-of-songs 3:4.
And here is another rule:
“Keep the main channel of a book clear!”
All discussions about a verse or it’s context is done within the corresponding threads, the #general or #thiqq-discussions. The main channel of a book is only used for managing purposes.
Formatting #
We dream of having a hard copy of lipu sewi pi toki pona one day.
